Are you a recent PhD looking to further the cause of quantum photonics

At Sparrow Quantum, we are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of talent. As an academic spinout from the Niels Bohr Institute, we’ve seen firsthand that academia can give rise to stunning commercial innovations—and we want to encourage that journey!

To that end, we accept industrial postdoctoral applications on a rolling basis.

What we’re looking for

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g. physics, engineering, mathematics, photonics)
  • Clear idea of research interests and future career path

Who you are

  • A team-player: At Sparrow, you’ll interact with people from diverse backgrounds with different fields of interest (from engineering to marketing). You should be capable of both cooperating with others and conducting independent work.
  • Funded: A successful postdoc is contingent upon receiving funding from an outside organisation. We are happy to draft a Letter of Support for prospective postdocs, but the ultimate responsibility for securing funds rests with the applicant.
“At Sparrow, my work is not only deeply valued but also has the power to create real-world impact beyond academia. We are goal-driven, prioritizing efficient teamwork to deliver meaningful results rather than just chasing publications.” – Ming-Lai Chan, Postdoc at Sparrow

FAQs

What are the steps of the application process?

  1. You submit your résumé with a brief description of your research proposal.
  2. We screen your application.
  3. We invite you for a meeting to discuss it in more detail, if we think there is a good match.
  4. We write a letter of support for your fellowship application.
  5. Should you acquire the requisite funding, you join our flock!

How many candidates do you support each year?

We aim to accept one applicant each year, but this is not a hard-and-fast rule. We can make exceptions for outstanding candidates with high research potential.

Where can I secure funding?

We can recommend the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions and Innovation Fund Denmark, but there are many other organisations that offer funding for industrial postdocs pursuing further research. We do not maintain any preference.

Is there an application deadline?

We accept applications year-round. For the ease of obtaining funding, however, your application will likely correspond to the deadlines set by the funding organisation.

To apply, contact us via the form below. Please include your résumé and a description of your area of interest and research proposal.

We look forward to hearing from you!
